Autumn Hills, Vermont
16” x 16” encaustic on panel
Autumn Hills, Vermont is a richly textured, original encaustic landscape painting inspired by the vibrant colors of peak foliage season in the mountains of New England. The hills are a mix of vivid orange, red and golden yellows. A stand of colorful trees sits at the base of the hills, and the foreground meadow has strokes of red, teal, and olive green .A vivid blue sky invokes the feel of a crips, clear autumn day - sweater weather!!
The multiple layers of wax, often incised with pottery tools to add extra texture, create a luminous depth and tactile presence that will add instant joy to any room in your home.
Created in 2025 by contemporary artist Marcia Crumley, Autumn Hills, Vermont is a celebration of seasonal color, natural rhythm, and the physical beauty of wax painting.

Customer feedback from a similar painting: "The colors are stunning in person and the texture of the wax is incredible. There is so much to look at in this small painting. It really brings my entryway to life."
About the artist: Marcia Crumley is a Maine-based artist known for her joyful, layered landscapes. Each encaustic painting typically contains 15-20 layers of molten wax, with each layer fused to previous layers by applying heat with a blow torch. The top layer is often incised with pottery tools, providing additional texture and depth, and revealing some of the underlying layers of color.
Marcia has sold over 500 paintings to collectors world-wide, and her art is held in corporate art collections including Boston Children’s Hospital, East Boston Community Health Center, Lasell Village, and American Tower Corporation. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Encaustic Art in New Mexico. Her paintings have been featured in a variety of publications including Art New England, The Boston Globe, Boston.com, Cultural Adventures 2021, The American Scholar, and Tourist & Town.
