24” diameter, encaustic on panel

This dawn sunrise piece is the second in my round porthole view series. I absolutely love Pantone’s pick for color of the year for 2024 - Peach Fuzz. And I love their description of the color’s qualities, saying “it captures our desire to nurture ourselves and others. It's a velvety gentle peach tone whose all-embracing spirit enriches mind, body, and soul. In seeking a hue that echoes our innate yearning for closeness and connection, we chose a color radiant with warmth and modern elegance.” I’ve done several peachy dawn paintings in acrylic  over the years, but decided mix up some peachy wax and create one in encaustic.

My encaustic paintings feature rich colors and textures, while the multiple layers and mark-making invite close looking. The luminous surface also makes you want to reach out and touch the painting, which you can! Unlike oil or acrylic paintings, encaustic paintings are hardened with natural resin, and the tough surface which won’t be damaged by your touching it. (You can touch the encaustic paintings in my studio, but please don’t try it in a museum — the guards will boot you out!!)
