Think summer on Nantucket, and the flowers that comes to mind are hollyhocks, which grow in many of the cottage gardens. They come in so many beautiful shades of white, pink and purple, and bloom all summer long, attracting bees, hummingbirds and butterflies with their sweet nectar. This original painting was created in encaustic paint (beeswax, with resin and pigment mixed in). There are lots of layers of color in this colorful, contemporary flower painting!
