Electric
14” x 11” encaustic with 23K gold leaf
I’m with Tay, it’s feeling like the time to celebrate orange. While I paint primarily landscapes, and autumn is my favorite season to paint with all of the reds and oranges in the New England landscape, I also have a long-running series of metallic abstracts. Creating these abstracts activates a different set of creative impulses, and I find it both freeing and challenging. Here’s the first of two new orange/gold abstract paintings. This one’s titled Electric, as in having or producing a sudden sense of thrilling excitement.
The title idea came from a recent interview when Taylor was asked to explain why orange would be the theme color for her upcoming album “The Life of a Showgirl”. She said: “I’ve just always liked it. It feels like kind of energetically how my life has felt. And this album is about what was going on behind the scenes in my inner life during this [Eras] Tour, which was so exuberant and electric and vibrant.”
