The trio of floating clouds adds a sense of playful movement to this poppy painting, echoing the dancing poppies. The cerulean blue underpainting is left visible throughout, uniting the painting and adding a dynamic outline to the stems and flowers. The poppy whorls are carved with a circular pottery tool to mimic the seed patterns, with the indentations filled with gold oil stick highlights. There is additional carving and highlighting in the poppy buds and the tall grasses. This encaustic painting (created in melted beeswax, with damar resin to create a hard durable surface) is currently on display in the Interiology Design showroom in Watertown, MA and is also available on their web site.
