Spring takes its time arriving here in Maine, but it’s a wonderful moment when the earth comes alive after a long winter. This painting was inspired by some gorgeous trees at a nearby farm. This spring blossom painting was created in encaustic (molten beeswax, with pigment and hardener added). I created a thick, smooth, brilliant blue background by pouring the wax, then painted the blossoms on top. The branches, buds, and blossoms all have loads of texture from adding and scraping away the wax, as you can see in the detail shot. This painting comes unframed; it is on a deep maple cradled panel, so framing is optional.
